CLEEVE PRIOR WAR MEMORIAL VILLAGE HALL occupies a building that dates back some 500 years and was originally the malt house for Peacock House farm.  It was purchased by the village from Farmer Sparrow at the end of the First World War and converted into a Memorial Hall to honour the eleven villagers who had lost their lives. During the Second World War it was used as a workshop by the Army.

Following the 1977 Jubilee, funds were raised to carry out essential refurbishments and improvements and then, for the Millennium, It was extended and refurbished again with a grant from the National Lottery Charities Board. It comprises a large hall, licensed for a maximum of one hundred people, and a well equipped kitchen which has recently been upgraded.

There is a ground-floor committee room, which is set up as a Tea Room with library, operating on alternate Wednesday afternoons, and an upstairs committee room. There are toilet and disabled facilities on the ground floor.  Wheelchair access is by a wooden removable ramp. The Hall is used regularly by various village organisations (Bowls Club, Bridge Club, CP Players, WI, Whist Club, Parish Council), and is available for hire for social events and activities. Hire charges are detailed at the bottom of this page.

The Pre-School operates on four mornings a week, with a parent and toddler group on Tuesday mornings.

It would be very helpful to the Committee to have some feedback from residents on recent events, and also suggestions for the sort of entertainment that people would enjoy in the future. It is our aim to cater for all sections of the community, so we would appreciate hearing from you. This can be done by emailing, or by speaking to any of the Committee members.
In order to offer the best service to the Village, it is vital to have wide representation on the Committee. We would particularly welcome some young parents, and strong men!
We intend to produce a consolidated list of entertainments for the website, showing events planned by the Hall, Church, PTA, Heritage Trust, Players, the Kings Arms, and the Village as a whole. We hope this will prevent unfortunate clashes, and also give everyone a chance to enjoy the wide range of activities on offer. There are already many items on the list, but please make sure that Ian Robinson knows if you would like an event included (

The AGM of the Memorial Village Hall took place on 20 January 2015.
The Chairman reported a restructuring of the outgoings of the Hall and a new agreement with Pre School to make the daily running of the Hall sustainable and not reliant on fund raising, which had not matched forecast budgets over the past year. In the coming year the number of fund-raising events would be reduced but it was hoped attendance would be higher.
