Cleeve Prior Bowls Club

Cleeve Prior has a very well established short mat bowls club. The club was formed in 1988 when a few villagers decided that the village hall was a suitable venue for an indoor bowls club. They were supported by the Parish Council, and by the Village Hall Management Committee who provided the money to purchase the bowls mat.

The Club was run on an informal basis meeting on Tuesday afternoons, followed soon after by an additional Thursday evening session. A club constitution was prepared and a Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer elected. These officers carried out their duties until recently when they collectively stood down.  At the 2013 AGM they were made honorary members of the club in recognition of their many years of excellent service to it.

The new committee intends to continue the relaxed and friendly atmosphere that the club has been known for locally. The committee will also continue liaising with, and supporting, other organisations within the village.
The Bowls Club meets in the village hall on Tuesday afternoons and Thursday evenings, and is one of the main sources of rental income for the village hall - paying a fixed rental for each session.

Due to the size restrictions of the village hall we are limited to the numbers of members we can accommodate at each session. As a result of these restrictions we have no vacancies for new members at present. We currently have a short waiting list for membership.

Anyone wishing to apply for membership or to make any enquiry, or comment, about the Bowls Club should contact the Chairman on the telephone number printed in the back page of the village newsletter.
