Village Projects

Cleeve Prior Parish Council  (CPPC) has managed its finances prudently over recent years and has built its reserves to a level where it is in a position to consider funding, in whole or in part, for suitable capital or maintenance projects within the village. The Parish Council therefore invites applications from any organisation, club, or group for funding for any suitable project that would benefit the village. The application form can be found on the Cleeve Prior website at cleeveprior.org/parish council/procedures, or from Sean Arble our parish clerk. Applications should be submitted if possible by  February 28th.

Household security

In the past 6 months we have had 3 intrusive burglaries in the village as well as other incidents locally involving garden sheds etc and theft of tools. I met with Mr Mike Stephenson who is the Crime Prevention Design Advisor for West Mercia who covers S Worcestershire and he made a number of very practical suggestions regarding how to improve one’s personal security and  would be happy to attend a Village meeting where he could share his experience and expertise. Before we set up any such village meeting it would be helpful if we could gauge interest within the village for such an event. I would be grateful therefore if those who are interested in learning more about how to make your home and therefore your valuables more secure, could let me know so that we can see what the likely uptake might be.

 August 2014

If you are interested in this being arranged, please contact the clerk who will compile a list to see if it is viable.

Thank you.

This check is to assess an  individual’s risk of developing heart disease, type 2 diabetes, kidney disease and stroke and is available to anyone aged between 40 and 74 if they have not already been diagnosed with the conditions mentioned.   Identification of potential risk early on can improve their  chances of living a healthier life and therefore reduce the potential for absence from work due to ill health.

  • ·         The check will take 15-20 minutes
  • ·         They will be asked some simple questions.  For example, about family history and lifestyle choices.
  • ·         We will record height and weight and Body Mass Index to establish whether clients fall into the healthy weight range.
  • ·         We will take blood pressure
  • ·         And do a simple blood test to check cholesterol  and blood glucose levels.  Results of the tests are given during the appointment.
  • During the health check we will discuss how to reduce risk and stay healthy.  This can be carried out on the day but if a client’s test results fall outside the healthy parameters then they may be advised to see their GP for further tests.

All we require from you is agreement to visit your organisation and access to a room in which to conduct the checks on a date convenient to you.  In advance of this we can forward an appointment list so that individuals can be allocated appointment times.  This would need a small amount of coordination from someone within your organisation but we aim to make the process as simple as possible.

I hope that this is something that we could arrange to provide and look forward to hearing from you.

    Kind regards,

    Katie Hazelgrove

Sandbag Provision Across Worcestershire

Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service is in the process of obtaining information regarding sandbag provision for use in times of flooding across Worcestershire.  This is being co-ordinated by Fire Control Operator Ben Mawby, who has requested that he is forwarded any relevant information which would support this provision. The information includes contact details, name and location where sandbags can be picked up.  If possible, he would like to receive this information by next Thursday, 6th February to enable this information to be made available as early as possible.

The information will initially be held on the Fire Service intranet and therefore be available to Fire Officers and support staff. It is not currently available to members of the public; however there is the intention that it will be published to the Fire Service website and be available to the general public at some point in the future. The intention is to use a have the information uploaded to the Service Website. This will allow users to view specifically named contacts with an address of where to collect the sandbags.  This information will primarily be made available by the Fire Service.  Local media will be informed at appropriate times.
The information will also be shared with the Environment Agency and Emergency Floodline.

Please email Ben with any information at BMawby@hwfire.org.uk

The Council sets aside funds each year to support worth local causes and groups.  As a matter of course the Council donates funds to maintain the Church Clock, provide Rural Rate Relief for the Kings Arms, and provide support for the War Memorial Hall and the Heritage Trust.  Additional funds are budgeted each year whereby parishioners can apply for grants. To date, the Council has had very few grant requests.

Cleeve Prior Pre-School represented by Mrs Annamarie Heelis: £230 awarded on 8 January 2014 for the purchase of a camera and a general donation.

Last updated 8-1-14. There is £270.00 remaining in the 2013/14 budget.

Cleeve Prior Neighbourhood  Development Plan

You maybe aware that the South Worcestershire Development Plan (SWDP) has recently submitted their recommendations to Wychavon District Council for approval. This plan covers the period up to 2030 and their current recommendation for our Village is that they have not identified any site for new development.

However, although no site has been identified by SWDP this doesn’t prevent a developer or landowner applying for planning permission. A Neighbourhood Development Plan (NDP) can help inform the planning process by setting out where the local community would prefer to see development and what it should look like.

Inappropriate developments risk spoiling the character of our Village and the NDP is an opportunity for you to influence what might be considered appropriate.

The Parish Council last year decided to produce a NDP and a steering group was formed. In order to gauge villagers’ opinion, the steering group has drawn up a questionnaire on a variety of topics and expects that all villagers will wish to participate. This your chance to make your views known before a draft NDP is produced for further consultation.

This questionnaire will be distributed with the April’s Village Newsletter and a member of the steering group will call to collect the completed questionnaire between 15th April and the end of the month.

The steering group look forward to seeing your views.

Nick Bury
Chairman – NDP Steering Group.
